Chitragupt Samaj - About Us
Web Design and Hosting by Kavita @ Cardiff
It was way back in 1981 that Chitragupt Puja was started at the residence of Dr Shivendra Kumar Sinha, at Walsall, in the company of few friends e.g. Dr D P Ambasht and Dr Sachindra Prasad and their families. Gradually the numbers started to grow and it was in 1983 that Dr. N K Srivastava of Sandwell took the initiative to organise it on a larger scale with the collaboration of all the Kayastha in Midlands and since then it has grown up to what you see today. We were very fortunate to have MOORTI OF CHITRAGUPTA JI MAHARAAJ sculptured in 1990 by Mr Kamal Ghatak of Cardiff, at the initiative of Mr Prabhat Kumar from Cardiff and Dr Santosh Kumar Verma of Birmingham.
The Chitragupt Samaj believes in WORLD, PEACE, JUSTICE, KNOWLEDGE and LITERACY, the four primary virtues depicted by the form of Shree Chitragupt Jee Maharaaj. The community, worldwide, strives to attain these virtues and promote the same, in line with the teachings of their supreme lord.
Empowered with powerful traits such as self respect, self esteem, intelligence, commonsense, presence of mind, aesthetic sense, benevolence, Kayastha's are progressive & adaptive.
Over the centuries, the community established excellence in academic, administration, legal justices, and science & fine-arts.
The Kayastha Community is religiously inclined & very close-knit. They strive to fight social injustice in society. They instil values of religion & culture. Academics has a very important place in the life of a Kayastha. Sincerity & Hard work are always respected and awarded.
Social reform through adoption of economically backward families from within the community, and hence their emancipation, is a know way of KAYASTHA service to their community.
Hindu mythology believes LORD BRAHMA, the creator, as we know it, created that entire world. Lord Brahma first created 16 sons from various parts of his own body. Shree Chitragupt Jee, his 17th creation, is believed to be the creations from Brahma's Mind & Soul.
Shree Chitragupt Jee Maharaaj is divine incarnation in human form called Kayastha, since he is the only creation of Lord Brahma, created in entirety [KAYA] from the Lords' body, unlike the other 16 sons who were created only from various parts of the body. Shree Chitragupt Jee Maharaaj (& hence the Kayastha's) were accorded a dual cast status, namely KAHATRIYA [Warrior] and BRAHMIN [The Learned].
Hindu mythology is based on a multiple phase life cycle involving rebirth. It is believed that those who do not attain a balance between their good-deeds and misdoing, have to attain rebirth in any living form, to complete the LIFE CYCLE.
The primary duty awarded to Shree Chitragupt Jee Maharaaj was to create LOG of lives of all living beings, judge their lives based on good-deeds and misdoing, and decide, upon ones death, whether they will attain NIRVANA [Completion of their LIFE CYCLE & redemption from all worldly troubles] or, receive punishment for their misdoing in another life form, till attain NIRVANA.
Thus as the story goes 'Chitragupta' was the progenitor of us, the Kayasthas, and it is therefore our duty to worship him and offer our Prayers.
